From the Principal. . .

Dear Parents,

Happy New Year!  I hope you had a wonderful winter break with your children!  It was great to see everyone return refreshed and ready for learning this week!

Our Parent/Teacher Conferences are coming up on February 4th and 5th.  Pre-K and Kindergarten parents will be conferencing with their child’s homeroom teacher.  First through Fifth Grade parents will be conferencing with their child’s PM teacher.  We will open up the conference scheduling system in Synergy on Wednesday, January 20th at 3:30p.m.  Attached are directions for scheduling your child’s conference.  If you need assistance, please call the office.  We are happy to help in any way!

It is my hope that all of our parents are able to come in to meet with their child’s teacher.  These meetings are a great opportunity for parents and staff to continue to partner for their child’s success!

Sincerely,

Michelle M. Leader

Principal

Pocket Moments:
Do you ever have trouble finding out what happened in your child's day after they come home from school?  Well, we have something that we've introduced here at PLES that may help with this.  There is a new school-wide strengths initiative called pocket moments.
The concept is to have students visualize the "best thing" that happened in their day at school.  The students can either reach up and grab the "best thing" or write it down on a paper pocket.
Make sure to ask your child(ren) what their pocket moment was each day when they come home from school.  We are also encouraging students and teachers to submit pocket moments to Mrs. Jones so she can read them over the announcements.

Young Authors Contest

It is time for the Young Authors Contest.  It is open to 2nd through 5th grade students.  Students should write a short story or poem.  Entries must be an original work.  Short story entries may range from a minimum of 300 words to 800 words.  Poem entries will consist of a single poem, and should consist of a minimum of 25 words, but no more than 150 words.  Entries may not have graphics.  Entries must include a completed cover sheet signed by the student author and sponsoring teacher.  Entries are due to January 8, 2016.  For additional information check with your child’s Language Arts teacher.

Training for Parent Volunteers

In order to create a consistent process for training parent volunteers on issues of confidentiality, HCPSS has developed a brief training module and certificate of completion.  Both the module and certificate are located at www.hcpss.org or by going to the Phelps Luck website at ples.hcpss.org.  Once you have completed the training, please submit your certificate of completion to the front office before registering as a volunteer.  Parents must also do this in order to chaperone field trips.  Thank you for your assistance!

IMPORTANT REMINDER

If you have moved or plan on moving, please notify the office of your new address. You will need to bring your new lease/deed and a current utility bill to the office in order for you to receive mailing and for your child’s record to be changed.
