From the Principal. . .

Dear Parents,

We were thrilled to welcome our students back this week!  It has been great to see them engaged in rigorous instruction and back into the routine!

As you know, we are holding Parent/Teacher Conferences today and tomorrow.  Please sign up through HCPSS Connect or by calling the front office.  We look forward to continuing to partner with you for your child’s success.

Please join us next Thursday, February 11th for our first PLES FIT Night!  The registration form is in today’s Thursday folder!  It will be a fun night of fitness!

Training for Parent Volunteers

In order to create a consistent process for training parent volunteers on issues of confidentiality, HCPSS has developed a brief training module and certificate of completion.  Both the module and certificate are located at www.hcpss.org or by going to the Phelps Luck website at ples.hcpss.org.  Once you have completed the training, please submit your certificate of completion to the front office before registering as a volunteer.  Parents must also do this in order to chaperone field trips.  Thank you for your assistance!

IMPORTANT REMINDER

If you have moved or plan on moving, please notify the office of your new address. You will need to bring your new lease/deed and a current utility bill to the office in order for you to receive mailing and for your child’s record to be changed.

STEM Opportunity

The STEM Mentoring Café is a speed-mentoring program aimed at inspiring underrepresented individuals in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) by meeting federal role models and engaging in conversations about STEM careers. At this STEM Mentoring Café event, 5th through 8th grade students will engage in show-and-tell chats with federal employees in STEM careers. We are especially interested in reaching girls, a historically under-represented group in STEM, to connect them to female STEM professionals. However, this program is available to all interested students and STEM professionals.

The federal STEM professionals will move from table to table to share how they got their start in STEM, what interests them the most about their job, what exciting projects they are undertaking, and why STEM matters to our society. Note that all federal employees are strongly encouraged to commit to serving an additional 20 hours annually as a mentor to students in their community.
