From the Principal. . .

Dear Phelps Luck Families,

At its meeting on November 21, 2019, the Board of Education voted to adjust school boundaries starting next school year. Phelps Luck will send some of our current students to Waterloo. We will also receive students from Jeffers Hill Elementary, Thunder Hill Elementary and Waterloo Elementary. The decision included several exemptions. Current 4th, 7th, 10th and 11th graders are eligible to choose to be exempt, as well as any student with an IEP/504 plan, those with at least one parent who is active duty military, and current River Hill High School and Oakland Mills High School students that are formally enrolled (as of 9/15/19) in either the 30-credit or 60-credit structured JumpStart program. Current 9th graders and trailing siblings are not exempt from the Board decision.

There is a process to request exemption. The exemption process began on December 4th and families eligible for exemption will receive an e-mail and text on December 5th with directions on how make your choice. You can log in to www.hcpss.org/connect and click on the Redistricting 2020 tab to see your child’s designated school for next year. More information on the Board’s decision and attendance area adjustments is available on the HCPSS website.
A new FAQ has been created and posted online: https://www.hcpss.org/school-planning/boundary-review/faq/

I will continue to share more updates as I receive them. Our staff will be available to support students and families moving to Waterloo or students and families joining us at PLES starting next year.

Sincerely,
Michelle M. Leader
Principal
